About Us
D.I.I.V. Ltd., for marine, freshwater and subterranean ecology was formed in 1992 – during the Croatian War for Independence – in the city of Zadar. The headquarters of the firm is situated in Sali, on Dugi Otok.
It was formed as a response to the rising need for skilled divers and diver biologists capable of performing high precision diving works in a myriad of underwater conditions and locations. Unlike common hydroconstruction works this group of skilled divers settled on complex and precision oriented underwater tasks such as fine measurements, biological and geomorphological studies, photo and video recording and similar affairs.
D.I.I.V.’s first job was creating a precise map of the underwater parts of the Golubinka speleological system for the setting up of the waterworks of Zadar; the mapping of the submerged cave Zmajevo Uho (Dragon’s Ear) near Rogoznica for the purposes of the new nautical centre; the cleaning and measuring of potable water wells in Ninski Dračevac; biological and ecological studies in the submerged caves of Brbinj; the studying of benthic communities in submerged temporary freshwater springs in the Velebit channel. During this time D.I.I.V.’s team had maintained the Zadar waterworks and sewage water system due to war-time water shortages.
In the following years D.I.I.V. joins research activities and cooperates with the Faculty of Science in Zagreb, the Institute Ruđer Bošković, the Croatian Hydrographic Institute in Split, the company Oikon – Institute for Applied Ecology, Zagreb, and with about forty businesses. Among these tasks are three EIS for trout farming in the Adriatic Sea, four EIS for tuna farms, four EIS for discharges of waste water from Krk, monitoring around fish farms, more EIS for future nautical centres and ports and submarine fibre optic cables, water supply systems, etc.
D.I.I.V. currently collaborates with the Department of Biology and Department of Geology of the Faculty of Science (University of Zagreb), with the Department of Ecology and Marine research (Ruđer Bošković Institute, Zagreb) and the Department of Geography of the Faculty of Science (University of Zadar). Our current scientific projects include research of biological and ecological aspects of benthos of the karstic east coast of the Adriatic.
All the employees and associates are experienced and well-educated divers, and the firm is equipped with all the necessary field gear for speedy deployment within the territory of the Republic of Croatia. D.I.I.V. uses a rigid inflatable boat (XS RIBs 750D with the Mercury Verado 300 HP engine) and a smaller inflatable boat (QuickSilver 365HD with a Yamaha 25 HP engine). In addition to our boats we use two all-terrain vehicles (Toyota Hilux 3.0D 4D and Lada Niva 1.7i).
The long-term goals for D.I.I.V. Ltd include: expanding our knowledge and skills to technical trimix dives (up to 100m of depth), the improvement of speleo-diving skills in fresh water caves, and from summer 2013, organising short tourist excursions under the colours of Sarastro adventureS.
From December 2012, D.I.I.V. has become the official dealer for the British rigid inflatable boat producer XS RIBs. D.I.I.V. is the official distributor for Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
